Throughout his professional career, design has been the main focus of Volker Hawighorst’s work. As a trained cabinet maker, he has a strong foundation of solid craftsmanship and a keen eye for detail.
He worked for several decades as an architect in international environments, responsible for design and delivery of large corporate projects as well as tailored solutions for smaller ventures. After moving from Germany to New Zealand, Volker started exploring new media to express his creativity.
In addition to his well-known polystyrene work, he is creating abstract work with sea urchin spikes (kina needles) and additional surprising, recycled materials.
