Mark Cowden is a New Zealand artist whose works are unique and are easily recognised. They are generally abstract, but more importantly they change, depending on the angle from which they are viewed. These works are produced as limited-edition multiples.
Mark likes to involve the viewer actively when they are looking at his art, and he believes this interaction helps them to “actually see” the art rather than just passively looking at it.
Mark is particularly fascinated by the relationship between the artist, the artwork, and the viewer. What the artist sees and what the viewer sees are separated by time, geography, culture, personal perspective, and in the case of Mark’s Multiplanes even the angle the artwork is viewed effects this relationship.
