Anne Daniel is a fibre artist based near Hokitika, creating artworks mainly from plant material. She is passionate about harakeke (flax) which forms the basis of much of her work. Most materials are grown in her garden; some are foraged.
Anne uses many different basketmaking techniques to create a wide variety of 2-d and 3-d artworks. Shape, shadow, texture and natural colour are important to Anne who creates with her head, hands and heart in response to the materials that present themselves. Her work is greatly influenced by nature. Each piece is unique and sustainable.
Anne has twice been a finalist in the Parkin Drawing Prize and has won awards in the Creative Fibre National exhibition. She is a regular participant in the Driftwood and Sand Beach Art event held annually in Hokitika and was the overall winner in 2023 and 2024. Her work has found homes throughout New Zealand and overseas.
Anne welcomes visitors to her studio by appointment to observe her working, view more artwork and explore her garden which includes over 25 cultivars from the National Flax Collection.
