This photograph captured in Muriwai Beach represents the coastal beauty of Aotearoa and the preservation of the land at Muriwai, namely the seasonal gannet colony.

The scene of a fluffy white cloud interacting with the deep colours of the ocean, reflecting and refracting on the waves below to create a welcoming gradient of blue, cyan and white. The visual distance from the shoreline to the deep water to the cloud makes the white represent a shimmer of hope; a goal at the end of a tumultuous journey, easily viewed but difficult to reach.

Combined with the cloud above forming a white path on the waves through it’s reflections, it provides a motivational inspiration to aim for. The weight and isolation of the cloud is ethereally dreamlike. It represents a journey and a goal, made possible by the untainted natural seascape.
