Rebecca Tune grew up in her dad’s studio (Geoff Tune) with paint on her hands before she could walk.
Rebecca’s childhood was spent in her parent’s friend’s studios, and at exhibition openings (for the cheese and crackers). Art was everywhere and Rebecca believes her path was chosen before she was even aware of it.
After graduating from Art School, Rebecca went on to teach Art at Auckland Girls’ Grammar before developing her Graphic Design business while having children. As her children grew, so did her Art practice, accompanied by Exhibition Curating for a gallery in Auckland. Rebecca now happily juggles her art practice with family life. Rebecca’s family know if they can’t find her, she will be in her studio with music blaring up to her elbows in paint.
Rebecca creates sculptural paintings that explore her interest in the beauty of the organic world. Her sculptural pieces are reminiscent of sea coral, butterfly and moth wings, quartz, autumn leaves. Rebecca expresses these ideas through beautiful colour, form and texture.
Rebecca is represented in galleries and private collections throughout New Zealand, Australia and USA.

This painting is part of an ongoing body of work looking at sunlight through a window/frame and how this light bounces, blankets, saturates the environment and then spills through the frame into the room.

Painted on Perspex further emphasises the idea of the windowpane while giving the work a feeling of floating on the wall. These paintings float slightly out from the wall which allows beautiful shadow effects from the transparent areas of the work as light moves across the work at different times of the day. This particular work is looking at those final splashes of sunlight before the darkness of the night blankets everything until sunrise.
